The Planning
organization in
Oneida
County
and
Herkimer
County
is somewhat unique in
New York State
. This uniqueness is a result
of
the interrelationship of three major planning organizations that are
housed in one location,
the programmatic emphasis of various planning activities, and the common
link of the professional staffs.
The combined staff serves the Oneida County
Department of Planning, the Herkimer-Oneida Counties Comprehensive
Planning Program (also known as the Regional Planning Board), and the
Herkimer-Oneida Counties Transportation Study.
The Planning Department also contracts with
Herkimer
County
to provide staff services to the Herkimer County Planning Board.
Planning activities are conducted at both the county
and regional levels with extensive local assistance provided to the area's
cities, towns & villages.
Our constituents are provided with the most reliable up-to-date and
comprehensive information needed to make critical decisions which
ultimately affect the area's land development, natural environment,
transportation systems, human services, criminal justice, and economic
development potential.
The planning activities within Herkimer and
Oneida
Counties
are typically categorized and focus on: Transportation
Planning, Land
Use and Zoning, Economic Development,
Human Services Planning, Census
and Statistics, Water Resources
and Environmental Planning, GIS Mapping,
and Economic
Development.
Additional information about these program areas is included within
the links provided.
