Eannace: Senior Employment Programs
Benefit Employers, Older Residents

Oneida County Executive Ralph J. Eannace, Jr., today urged area residents 55 and older who are looking to return to the work force and also increase their incomes to participate in the Senior Work Employment Program.

"Many employers want the skills, experience and dependability that mature workers bring to their offices and organizations," Eannace said. "Our senior employment initiatives help older workers gain some extra income as they update and refresh their skills. Employers gain from having competent employees who remain on the program’s payroll – reducing the red tape and costs for an employer."

The Senior Work Employment Program is a cooperative effort between the Oneida County Office of Workforce Development and the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Office of Continuing Care.

"The terrific work ethic and productivity of our older workers has made the Mohawk Valley’s economy strong," Eannace said. "Our efforts to bring mature adults back to the workforce helps those who need extra income and helps our region continue to tap into their talents and experience."

Employment initiatives include:

Senior Community Service Employment Program (Title V):

  • Must be 55 or older
  • Meet federal income guidelines
  • Part-time experience at not-for-profit / government agencies
  • Update work and computer skills

502(e) Employment Program:

  • Must be 55 or older
  • Meet federal income guidelines
  • Earn more than minimum wage
  • Work full-time / part-time
  • Work in the public or private sectors

Eannace noted that because the program covers employee wages, employers have a "trial period" with each potential employee to decide if he or she is the right person for the job.
