Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino along with
Oneida County Executive Joseph A. Griffo

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino was in Utica today as a special guest of County Executive Griffo.  Mayor Menino spoke at a luncheon to the public.  The event was sponsored by the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Menino, a three term Mayor of one of America’s great cities spoke about what was going on in Boston and how Big and Small cities all have the same problems.

“Quality of life issues are as important in Boston as they are in Utica.  Keeping our neighborhoods safe, controlling crime, improving education and spurring economic development are the issues we all face.” said Menino

“Mayor Menino achieved success by creating partnerships with businesses, neighborhoods, and community organizations,” said County Executive Griffo. “His vision of government is much like mine – that government is the catalyst to bring an active community together and keep us on course for progress.  His expertise will be a great help for anyone interested in getting action to grow jobs, improve neighborhoods and keep our communities safer.”

Menino was presented with various gifts from the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Rome Chamber of Commerce, the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce and the County Executive.  Menino in turn had some items to present to Griffo, a die hard New York Yankee fan.
