GRIFFO SPEAKS TO BOYS STATE

Morrisville, NY - Oneida County Executive Joseph A. Griffo addressed the annual ‘Boys State Convention’ today. The event is once again being held at SUNY Morrisville in Morrisville, NY.

County Executive Griffo returned for his 7th year. He touched upon the role of the executive branch of the government.

Boys State is such a unique opportunity for the young men who attend each year. Not only are they introduced to what the role of government is in our society, more importantly they are active participants. Our government is for all people to participate and make a difference and the opportunity that they have at this stage of their lives will hopefully influence them to remain active parts of their communities for years to come.” Griffo said.

Boys State is a program sponsored and organized by The American Legion. Boys State was developed from the concept that youth should be offered a better perspective of the practical operation of Government; that the individual is an integral part, and commensurately responsible, for the character and success of his government. Boys State focuses on a concept of the Leadership Action Program. Qualified male high school juniors from across New York State participate in a practical government course designed to develop in the young citizens a working knowledge of the structure of Government and to impress upon them that their Government is just what they make it.

“Joe Griffo has been a welcome guest here at American Legion Boy's State of New York for a number of years.

He always is our most popular  speaker and I believe it is because he relates so well to our citizens.” Said John Nichols - State Counselor for Boys State.
