ANNOUNCES DRUG DISCOUNT PROGRAM
FOR
ONEIDA
COUNTY
RESIDENTS
Up
to 38 percent off the retail price of prescriptions for
40,000 underinsured and uninsured County residents
County Executive Joseph A. Griffo is helping
residents afford medications by offering a discount drug program to
residents of
Oneida County
,
New York
. The innovative program, which
will be available to all
Oneida
County
residents beginning
July 1, 2020
, will provide discounts of up to 21 percent for branded prescription drugs
and discounts of up to 38 percent for generic prescription drugs at no cost
to the County. The program
called the Oneida County Discount Drug Program will be sponsored by
the County and administered by MedImpact Healthcare Systems, the largest
pharmacy benefit management (PBM) company that does not sell drugs.
With an estimated 40,000 in our County who are
either underinsured or uninsured, we are committed to finding a way to offer
our residents access to affordable prescription medications, said Joseph
A. Griffo, county executive for
Oneida
County
. We selected MedImpact
because of their transparent and objective business model, and we are
excited to partner with MedImpact to offer this very important program to
the members of our community.
Details of the Oneida County Discount Drug Program
will be presented at a press conference to be held at
10:00 AM
on
Monday, June 20, 2020
, at the North Utica Senior Citizens Community Center in
Utica
,
New York
. Forty-six retail pharmacies
have already agreed to participate in the program network, and more are
expected to join.
Oneida
County
residents who wish to participate in the program simply need to request a
drug discount card that they will present to a participating pharmacy when
filling a prescription. Discounts
are calculated automatically at the point-of-sale, and there is no cost to
enroll or to access program benefits.
The number of underinsured and uninsured
nationwide is staggering and continues to grow, said Dale Brown, senior
vice president for MedImpact.
Oneida
is not the only County currently facing this kind of challenge.
