Griffo: Oneida County Helps Local Governments Oneida County Executive Joseph A. Griffo today announced that Oneida County is sending all local governments a booklet designed to help local officials respond to public health questions, particularly regarding a pandemic or other infectious disease outbreak. “Having served in local government, I know that people expect their local officials to be ready to answer questions on everything,” Griffo said. “Because of the rise in concerns of avian flu and the potential spread of infectious diseases, Oneida County prepared a short booklet designed to provide some basic information that local officials can share with their constituents.” Griffo said the booklets are part of the cooperation and communication necessary to deal with public health issues. “I view local elected officials as important partners who can help the people of their communities separate fact from myth and also help them to understand that although we have plans in place, we are not facing an imminent threat. Particularly in rural areas, I know that town and village officials will be the first contacts for people with questions. Through these booklets, they will have the answers.” Griffo also urged residents and local officials with questions about county preparations for avian flu, regular flu, or any other public health issue, to contact the Oneida County Health Department at 798-5064 or visit the Health Department’s page on the Oneida County Web site, www.ocgov.net. “Ensuring that the people of Oneida County have accurate and complete public health information is a vital part of my commitment to protect the public health here in Oneida County,” Griffo said. “Local officials are vital links in our communication partnership so that everyone knows the facts and all parts of the county are equal partners in this effort.” |
