Griffo Declares State of Emergency in
Oneida County

Oneida County Executive Joseph A. Griffo today declared a State of Emergency in Oneida County due to the heavy rains that have resulted in flooding conditions at various locations across the county. The State of Emergency took effect at 6 a.m. and will continue for the next five days as local communities and governments deal with flooding and other damage from recent rains.

“This action is necessary because we are already seeing flooding along many creeks and also washouts impacting travel in many of our rural areas,” Griffo said. “Oneida County has received in excess of 4.14 inches of rain, and with more rain falling today we must be prepared for further weather-related conditions. As it is now, road closings have already created response problems for emergency responders.”

Griffo said that in addition to roads already closed, drivers need to be aware of dangers from many roadways that border creeks, drainage ditches and areas of heavy runoff. “The ground is extremely saturated, meaning that we have the potential for flooding near almost any small creek,” Griffo said. “I urge drivers to be extremely careful and to be on the alert for fast-flowing water.”

Griffo said that as of 4:30 a.m., road closings include:

Rt 46 from Jackson Hill Boonville to Golf Course Rd. Rome
