Picente:
Lower Sales Tax Takes Effect Dec. 1
Oneida
County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr., today reminded retailers and
shoppers that
Oneida
County
s combined sales tax rate will drop as of December 1st to
8.75%.
Oneida
County
will not longer be in the position of having the highest sales tax rate in
the state, which is an important part of restoring
Oneida
County
s image as a favorable place to live, work and shop, Picente said.
The reduced sales tax rate allows us to maintain enough of a revenue
stream to support the vital operations of
County
Government
while also helping us become stronger fiscally.
Picente said the
reduced sales tax rate is an incentive for shoppers to patronize
Oneida
County
merchants. If shoppers have been looking at other counties because of the
sales tax issue, this is a good chance for them to look close to home and
discover that we have a wide variety of retailers throughout the county,
from the national chains to some outstanding home-grown specialty shops that
can offer a wide range of products and services.
Oneida
County
s retail sector has been growing with new options for shoppers, and
during this Christmas shopping season, I hope that shoppers will explore
both new and long-time retailers to find great values.
