Picente Announces Equipment Grants

To Fire Departments, Communities

            Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr., today announced that Oneida County Government is awarding grants to several local Fire Departments and communities to address equipment needs identified at the community level.

             “Upgrading the equipment available to our Fire Departments and first responders is an important step in protecting the people of Oneida County ,” Picente said. “At a time when Fire Departments are caught between rising needs and limited funding, I am proud that we are able to work with them to provide equipment that will meet the needs of the communities they serve.

            Picente said the money for the grant comes from Oneida County 's award from the NYS Office of Homeland Security Program (SHSP). The funding of this grant is from the FEMA National Preparedness Directorate.

            Picente issued the following list of grant awards being made:

            Western Fire Department: $5,000 towards an emergency generator.

            Village of Oriskany : $5,000 towards an ATV to be used for rescues.

            Town of Steuben : $5,000 towards an emergency generator.

            Waterville Fire Department: $5,000 to use for training equipment.

            Oriskany Falls Volunteer Fire Department: $5,000 for equipment.

            Forestport Fire Department: $5,000 for equipment

            Woodgate Volunteer Fire Department: $5,000 for equipment

            Sherrill-Kenwood Volunteer Fire Department: $1,696 for pagers.

            Oneida Castle Fire Department: $5,000 for equipment.

            Vernon Fire Department: $5,000 towards an emergency generator.

            Verona Fire Department: $5,000 for equipment.
