APPLICATION DEADLINE NEARS FOR
2000 COLLEGE CORPS PROGRAM

 

 UTICA- -The deadline to apply for the 2000 Oneida County College Student Corps Program- - - a career guided summer jobs program for college age students---is Friday, April 28,2000, Oneida County Executive Ralph J. Eannace, Jr. announced today. Eannace said funding for the third year of the program has been approved and all is go for what he called " a unique opportunity for the next generation of our workforce to gain invaluable work experience in their chosen field of study with local employer needs."

Nearly one hundred fifty (150 ) applications have already been received, he said, and job matching--- finding just the right placement for each intern, will begin shortly.

Eannace said applications are available at the Oneida County Workforce Development Office,209 Elizabeth Street, Utica, the New York State Department of Labor, 2nd floor, 207 Genesee Street, Utica, or at the Rome Community Service Center, 301 West Dominick Street, Rome. Preliminary applications will be available online at the Oneida County Workforce Development website: http://www.ocwd.org.

Eannace said the College Student Corps Program began in 1998 as an initiative of his office and the Board of Legislators. Its concept was created with a vision to restore the area’s best assets by returning bright young minds to Oneida County and showing students the job opportunities available here.

Students working on the program are paid $7.00 per hour for a 25-hour workweek, all of which is funded by $100,000 from the Oneida County Board of Legislators and participating employer’s contributions.

Students wishing to participate in this year’s program are encouraged to apply early.

Students who participated in last year’s program, and meet the eligibility guidelines for this year’s internship, need to fill out the 2000 College Student Corps application.
