County opens new Rome DMV Office Thursday

ROME: Oneida County Clerk Richard Allen will lead a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new location of the Oneida County Department of Motor Vehicle Office in Rome on Thursday March 8, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. The new office is on 301 West Dominick Street. The public is welcome to attend.

The Rome DMV office will be closed on Wednesday the 7th for the move and will open in its new location on Thursday March 8th. The DMV staff has worked hard to make sure that the move, from the 1249 Erie Boulevard site which it has occupied since July of 1990, will cause as little customer disruption as possible.

According to County Clerk Allen, "The new location will help fill the expanding needs of the county in the most cost-effective manner possible. This move will help the Clerk’s Office save money by cutting down on the amount of dollars spent on leasing space. It will also benefit the Rome business district by bringing people downtown."

The county bought the 25,000 square foot building last year. The building will also house Rome offices of Oneida County Family Court and Social Services.
