Allen to Open Saturday for Snowmobile Registration

Oneida County Clerk's Richard Allen announced today that Department of Motor Vehicle Staff will register and renew snowmobile registrations on Saturdays in January and February. They will be registering snowmobiles from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Adirondack Gateway Information Center at 9806 Rte. 12 in Barneveld. Snowmobile trail information will also be available.

The idea germinated from a request by Lee Hinkleman, President of the Oneida County Snowmobile Association. This developed into a cooperative effort between the Clerk’s Office, Snowmobile Association, Trenton Chamber of Commerce and the Adirondack Gateway Information Center.

President of the Trenton Chamber Fitz Hardiman who is the owner of the Adirondack Lanes in Barneveld expects that this service will help snowmobilers that come from out side of New York State. Mr. Hardiman noted that "without the added hassle of registering their vehicles on a week day they hopefully will have a positive stay in Oneida County and come back to enjoy our area again."

Richard Bothen, President of the Tourist Center and John Isley, Secretary expect that the increased traffic to the Information Center will help get the word out that our area has a lot to offer.

Mr. Allen said that this is "a pilot programs designed to offer better service to the to the many tourist that come to Northern Oneida County for snowmobiling. Hopefully this will work out and we can expand it next year. Our area sees a great influx of winter sport enthusiasts that come to enjoy the many great outdoor activities we have to offer and we wanted to do what we could to make their stay as pleasurable as possible."

Mr. Allen stressed "that this will be for snowmobile registration only. Our staff will not have the capacity to access the State DMV computer system so we cannot process any other DMV transactions."

For all transactions proper ID must be provided. Payment can be made by cash, credit card or check. All required forms are available at the Oneida County Utica and Rome DMV, at the Tourist Center on Route 12 in Barneveld or on the Internet at www.nysdmv.com .
